Buttonwood Park Zoo

Buttonwood Park Zoo is a family favorite. My sister used to work there, and the kids got very friendly with the staff and animals. They are experts! We got our zoo membership as a Christmas gift, but both family memberships and one time admission is extremely affordable. Zoo membership includes free admission and discounts to many other zoos and museums (including Capron Park in Attleboro and The Museum of Science in Boston!)

Whydah Pirate Museum (West Yarmouth)

Admission for this museum is a little more than I like to pay (about $20 for adults, $15 for kids.) .. But my mom found a Groupon. Jacen is a very advanced 6 year old- a strong reader, good attention span and very well behaved. Even he got bored quickly. It’s a lot of quiet reading for his age. It was also disappointingly small. It’s not something we would do again.

Swifts Beach (wareham)

Swifts is a smaller beach- it works out really well for Jacen because he has childhood anxiety. It doesn’t get quite as busy as the other beaches, and the water is a little calmer. This time of year the kids like collecting snails in the shallow water. It was a little chilly to swim with the wind, but they were there for hours and still had a blast!

Lakeville Elementary Playground

The playground at the Lakeville Elementary school is one of our favorites. The kids love the clean equipment, mom loves the layout. It’s one of the few playgrounds that is set up in a way that mom can actually sit down and still see the kids wherever they go. It’s gated, and a typically nicer crowd. It’s always a good time, and feels a lot safer than some of the others.

Flagship Cinemas- Beauty and the Beast

It’s no secret that going to the movies for a family of four can cost you an arm and a leg.. but it’s one of those things we like to indulge in. We’d been looking forward to seeing Beauty and the Beast since it was first announced, so it was a big deal! We like to gather our extended family in a large group for these kinds of things- we usually dress for the movie and bring some themed snacks. We chose Flagship because they are a little more affordable than Silver City, Regal at the Independence Mall, or the Dartmouth theater. For the most part, no one was even phased- they were all so into the movie!- but mom did miss the recliners at the nicer theaters.
